Cockpit USA is an American outerwear company founded in 1975 by Jeff Clyman, originally under the name Avirex. The brand built its reputation by reproducing iconic U.S. military flight jackets such as the A-2, G-1, and B-3, and became an official supplier to the U.S. Air Force. In the early 2000s the Avirex name was sold, but the original business continued as Cockpit USA, maintaining its heritage focus on aviation and military garments.
All jackets are made in the United States at the company’s factory in New Jersey, using full-grain goatskin, cowhide, horsehide, and shearling, with authentic details such as mouton collars, heavy-duty hardware, and accurate linings. Beyond leather, the brand also produces field jackets, parkas, and utility wear. Cockpit USA works closely with the Smithsonian Institution, creating historically faithful reproductions based on garments preserved in their archives.
This balance of archival authenticity, military contracts, and domestic manufacturing has made Cockpit USA a key name in American heritage outerwear.
