Founded in 1974 and based on the island of Guernsey in the Channel Islands, Guernsey Woollens is a family-run company preserving the tradition of the Guernsey sweater—a hard-wearing, sea-ready garment with roots dating back over 400 years.
The company produces its knitwear using 100% Pure British Wool, selected for its long fibers, strength, and natural water resistance. Each sweater is knitted, linked, and finished entirely on Guernsey, using time-honored techniques that create a dense, durable fabric designed to withstand wind, salt, and wear. The design features a square shape, short splits at the hem, and identical front and back panels, originally made so fishermen could dress in the dark without fuss.
Guernsey Woollens remains one of the few producers making authentic Guernsey sweaters locally. Their garments are worn by the Royal Navy, working seafarers, and heritage clothing enthusiasts worldwide—valued for their utility, craftsmanship, and history.
