Hiut Denim Co. was founded in 2011 by David and Clare Hieatt with a singular mission: to get the town of Cardigan, Wales, making jeans again. For decades, Cardigan was home to one of Britain’s largest jeans factory, producing 35,000 pairs a week until it closed in 2002, leaving 400 skilled craftspeople unemployed. The Hieatts launched Hiut to utilize this dormant skill set, operating under the motto "Do One Thing Well." They reject the churn of fast fashion, focusing exclusively on manufacturing the best jeans possible and restoring pride to a community that had lost its industrial heartbeat.
The brand is defined by its transparency and connection to the maker. They source premium Japanese selvedge denim from the Kuroki mill and sustainable organic denim from Candiani in Italy. Construction is strictly small-batch; every pair is hand-signed by the "Grandmaster" (the specific machinist who sewed it) and features a unique "History Tag" code that allows the owner to log the garment's patina over time. Crucially, they back their craftsmanship with a free repairs for life policy, patching tears and fixing blowouts indefinitely to keep the jeans in circulation and out of landfills. Every single pair is cut and manufactured in their factory in Cardigan, Wales.
